An 8km route designed around six of Richmond's best pubs, with a proper detour over to Twickenham for good measure.
Richmond and the riverside are packed with pubs made for a long lunch and a pint with a view. This route takes you along the water before venturing further out to Twickenham, where there's something for everyone, all of it a lot closer than you'd think when you're on a bike.
The Pub Hunter covers the most ground of our shorter routes, tracing the Thames Path before crossing over into Twickenham and doubling back along quieter streets. It's mostly flat with one or two short rises near the bridges, nothing that'll leave you out of breath. The riverside stretch is popular with walkers and other cyclists, especially on sunny afternoons, so expect to share the path and take it easy through the busier bits. Once you're over into Twickenham the roads open up and get quieter. Surfaces are a mix of good tarmac and firm towpath throughout. You'll get proper river views for most of the ride, plus a decent stretch of pub terraces and beer gardens to eye up as you go past. Both bikes handle this route comfortably; the Cruiser / Hybrid's relaxed pace suits an afternoon of stopping in at a few places.
Afternoons and early evenings work best, especially in summer when the pub gardens along the river really come alive. Weekday afternoons are quieter if you want the towpath to yourself; weekends from midday onward get busy fast, in a good way, but expect more people around. Give yourself a good two to three hours if you're planning to actually stop at a few places.
Bring a bit of extra cash or a card for however many stops you fancy, and layer up if you're riding into the evening, it cools off quickly once the sun starts going down by the river. Your bike comes with a lock at every stop, so you can hop in for a pint without a second thought.
We'd rather you didn't ride after drinking. Plenty of guests do this route as a walk between a couple of stops and cycle the rest, or split the ride across a group with a designated rider. Use your judgement and stay safe.
There are a couple of road crossings, including near the bridges into Twickenham, but nothing that requires main-road riding. Your itinerary includes Google Maps links so you always know exactly where you're headed.
Yes, it's a popular one for groups. You can book up to four bikes in one go, and if you need more than that for a bigger get-together, just message us on WhatsApp and we'll sort it.
